It’s that time of year again!  Tournament time.  All currently enrolled students ages 3-16 in Mo Duk Pay are welcome to attend our 2017 annual Spring Kid’s Tournament.  The format will be familiar to all who have attended before: 8:30-9:00 Doors open, warmup time and time to hear the rules of the event. 9:00-10:00  Grappling 10:00-11:00  Forms 11:00-Noon  Sparring We also stick a mystery division in there somewhere. It’ll be exciting. It’ll be weird. It’ll be a mystery. Divisions for all events will be made at the time of the tournament.  We will do our best to divide students up according to size, age and skill level.  There will be medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in all divisions. This event is sliding scale admission.  This means students pay what they feel they can afford.  All money goes to the MDP association and making our system more awesome. If you register early – before April 15th, you will be entered to win the most awesome prize ever. What is the most awesome prize ever? The most awesome prize ever is that you get to tell us what the mystery division is! The rules: For grappling, students can choose to play to submission or for position.  If students play for position then a point will be awarded for a pin that is held for 3 seconds in either mount, side control or the many variations of those two positions.  The first student to 3 points wins or if time runs out (3 minutes), then the student with the most points wins.  In event of a tie, the match will continue until one student scores.  If students play to submission, the only way to win is to make the other student tap.  No twisting foot locks or spinal locks will be allowed.  The referee will be able to call the match at any time for safety reasons.  Students may also choose to start from kneeling or standing.  Grappling will be run as a double elimination tournament. For forms, students will be called up one at a time and show their form.  They will get a score from three judges.  These scores will be added together for a total score.  After all students have performed, the student with the biggest total gets 1st place and so on.  If there is a tie, students will be asked to perform again and may choose to do a different form if they like. For sparring, we will be doing tournament sparring.  This means all that is required to score is light contact to the head or body.  The match will break after each point.  Rounds will be two minutes and the first student to 5 points wins.  If time runs out, the person with the most points wins.  If there is a tie, students will continue to play until time runs out.  The referee can call the match at any time for safety concerns.  Sparring will be run as a double elimination tournament.
